The school is one of 11 that the New York-based education services company is adding to the 2007 edition of its annual “Best 170 Law Schools” book, available in stores this October.

“We select schools for this book based on several criteria covering three areas: our regard for their academic programs and other offerings, institutional data we collect about them, and opinions of students attending the schools,” said Robert Franek, vice president and publisher of the review.

“We are very pleased to feature North Carolina Central University’s Law School in our book and to commend it both to readers of the book and users of our Web site as one of the best law schools in America,” Franek said.

The book’s ratings and rankings are based on the results of surveys in which students were asked about themselves and their career plans, as well as their schools’ academics, student body and campus life. NCCU’s law school has the only part-time evening program between Atlanta, Ga., and Virginia Beach, Va.

“This recognition is the result of an effort by many people here at our law school to present to The Princeton Review the high quality of legal instruction that exists at North Carolina Central University School of Law,” Law School Dean Raymond Pierce said.

Among the school’s alumni are Gov. Mike Easley, U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, Appeals Court Judge Wanda Bryant, state Sens. Ellie Kinnaird and Julia Boseman and state Reps. Mickey Michaux, Bonner Stiller and Alice Bordsen.

“The strength of the NCCU Law School lies in its excellent faculty, its diversity and its strong curriculum,” Chancellor James Ammons said. “The NCCU School of Law trains lawyers from diverse backgrounds committed to meeting the needs of the underserved in our society.”
